As one of the leading manufacturers of chemical resins for coating and polyurethane industries in the United Arab Emirates, Pearl Insulation Materials is contributing to the market with quality products and service.

Nitrogen in the chemical production
In many processes in the chemical industry, it is necessary to eliminate undesired reactions and keep moisture away from products. For this purpose, inert-gas blanking with nitrogen is normally used to hold down the level of oxygen and prevent oxygen and/or moisture from coming into contact with reactive or adsorptive products.

At the factory of Pearl Insulation Materials located in Dubai Investment Park, nitrogen is used for blanketing of reactors, to avoid oxidation in the process which causes discoloration of the end product. In the past, Pearl Insulation Materials bought liquid nitrogen for their production, every month they consumed seven cylinders of liquid nitrogen in a capacity of 200 liters each cylinder, where the company had to spend AED 252,000 annually.

On-site nitrogen generation reduces operation cost

Since from 2017, the factory equipped with an Atlas Copco NGP 20+ nitrogen PSA generator connected to a GA 7 VSD FF compressor along with air treatment, the company has its own on-site nitrogen generation instead of purchasing nitrogen in cylinders, which saves time, money and lots of energy.

The NGP+ series of nitrogen generators use Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology to isolate nitrogen molecules from other molecules in compressed air, oxygen, CO2, water vapor and other gases are adsorbed. The result is virtually pure nitrogen supply up to 99.999% at the outlet of the generator.

On-site nitrogen generation requires the most reliable and efficient compressed air solution. The GA VSD full feature compressor in an innovative vertical design comes with integrated dryer for high quality air. It reduces energy consumption by on average 50% with uptimes assured even in the harshest operational conditions.

“We no longer wait for nitrogen cylinders to come; the nitrogen is now available 24/7 with the onsite PSA nitrogen generator. Besides, we analyzed the costs compared to purchase of cylinders, we save up to 200,000 AED annually while the payback of investment on the nitrogen generator is 18 months.” Said Rajeesh Nair, the Deputy General Manager of Pearl Insulation Materials Industries LLC.

No safety hazard

Compared to bottled gas, no safety hazard is another big advantage of on-site nitrogen generation the users should consider. The company is pleased to increase employee safety with the nitrogen generator by eliminating delivery trucks coming and going from their facility and risk of handling high pressure cylinders while loaded and unloaded.

“We have peace of mind on Safety, as we do not have to worry about the risk of unloading the cylinders from the truck. In the past, somebody has been hospitalized because the tank fell on one guy while unloading while the hydraulic lift fails.” Said Rajeesh Nair, the Deputy General Manager of Pearl Insulation Materials Industries LLC.
