Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group Achieves HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 Following Integration of Elsevier’s Order Sets and Care Planning

Close collaboration between Elsevier, HMG and VIDA drives efficient CDS integration at Sehat Al Suwaidi Hospital

LONDON, United Kingdom. -Monday, October 30th 2017 [ AETOS Wire ]

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, today announced that Dr.
Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group (HMG) has achieved HIMSS EMRAM (EMR Adoption Model) Stage 6 following integration of Elsevier’s Order Sets and Care Planning solutions.

HMG, the largest private hospital group in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, implemented Elsevier’s clinical decision support (CDS) solutions in the Sehat Al Suwaidi Hospital site in July 2017. Achieving HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 certification is an important milestone for identifying the level of EMR and EHR capabilities globally. HMG aspires to achieve HIMSS Stage 7, the highest accreditation by HIMSS EMRAM, in 2018.

Meeting the deadline for the HIMSS EMRAM inspection required a strong partnership between Elsevier and Cloud Solution, the provider of the local EHR system, VIDA. Mr. Abdulelah Al Mayman, CEO Cloud Solutions and former CIO of HMG, said, “The professional collaboration between the VIDA and Elsevier teams showcased the incredible potential for smart partnerships to drive the adoption of integrated technologies in healthcare settings. This great achievement opens up a future for state-of-the-art predictive health, patient wellness programs and machine learning which can all be used to generate improved healthcare outcomes.”

Acknowledging the success of the close collaboration between Elsevier and the HMG’s Clinical and Technology teams, Nasser Al Huqbani, CEO & President of HMG, said, “The implementation of Elsevier’s Order Sets and Care Planning solutions is a best-in-class example of how delivering such a programme, even under considerable time constraints, can help a hospital achieve greater utilisation of its EHR for the benefit of clinical staff and patients.”

He continued: “One of the great challenges to delivering new IT solutions in hospital systems is the balance between minimising disruption to care and implementing across-the-board change so processes do not overlap. Such success could only be accomplished through a smart deployment programme that educated and motivated the clinical teams to adopt the technology.”

Elsevier’s CDS solutions focus on driving operational efficiencies through improving communication and increasing access to evidence-based guidelines.

Commenting on the experience of clinical teams at the Sehat Al Suwaidi Hosptial, Ihssan Abdulmonim Alalem, MD, Medical Director, said, “The Order Sets and Care Planning integration was an important step for better communication between interdisciplinary teams, and we are seeing an improvement in the use of best practice processes as a result.”

Elsevier and HMG will now continue to ensure high quality use and that outcomes are measured with ongoing rollout across eight more hospital sites in the region by end of 2017.

“By implementing Elsevier’s Order Sets and Care Planning, HMG will be able to transform its systems, continue to towards Stage 7 accreditation and, most importantly, improve the treatment patients receive,” said Tim Hawkins, Managing Director, Clinical Solutions EMEALAAP, Elsevier. “Integration of CDS within EHR systems is the most efficient way of optimising an EHR investment and delivering measurable clinical outcomes.”

Elsevier’s Care Planning is the industry’s only EHR-based care planning solution that combines the patient story, more than 500 evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and standardised assessments into one patient-centred plan of care across all care settings and disciplines. Care Planning was named a 2017 Category Leader for the "Clinical Decision Support – Care Plans" category, as determined by KLAS, the research firm which specializes in monitoring and reporting the performance of healthcare vendors.

Elsevier Order Sets is an intuitive, cloud-based solution that enables physicians, clinicians and informaticists to author, review and manage order sets in a collaborative environment. Easily integrated into the EHR, Elsevier Order Sets adapts to the partner organisation, working within HMG’s existing workflow, using established terminology and order items.
